Course Introduction

A Network Programming Lecture by Steven Choy

Welcome Students

What do you need to do?

In the coming 8 months (September 2010 to April 2011)

  • Attend 26 lectures (2 hours each)
  • Attend 26 tutorial/practical sessions (2 hours each)
  • Study the course materials
  • Do class quizzes at each lecture class
  • Submit two network programming assignments
  • Present your work in class
  • Sit the mid-term test
  • Sit the final exam at early May

Meeting Schedule

  • Lecture: Wednesday 15:00 - 17:00
  • Practical/Tutorail: Thursday 12:00 - 14:00

Lecture Class

  • Lecture notes will be delivered to you in class
  • Listen to lecture
  • We have class quiz at each lecture
    • To act as an attendance records
    • To see how much you have got during the lecture
    • A component of continuous assessments (20% of your course score)

Textbook

  • We don't have a compulsory textbook for this course.
  • I will print lecture notes and other course materials whenever necessary.

Tutorial Class

What will we do in tutorial class:

  • Do class exercises to review subjects
  • Discuss on network programming issues
  • Do practical network programming exercises
  • Work on your individual assignments

You are expected to ...

  • Study the course materials after each lecture
  • Participate in tutorial sessions
  • Learn from your instructors and your peer students
  • The more you pay the more you get!

Course assessment components

  • 20 class quiz after each lecture (20%)
  • 2 network programming assignments across two semesters (20%)
  • 1 mid-term test (10%)
  • 1 final examination (50%).
