Course Assessment for Academic Year 2009-2010

Course assessment components

  • 20 class quiz after each lecture (20%)
  • 2 web site design assignments across two semesters (20%)
  • 1 mid-term test (10%)
  • 1 final examination (50%).

Assignment One (2009-2010)

  • Task
Make a single web page to present various information about a kindergarten in Hong Kong. The information can be obtained from Kindergarten Profile (幼稚園概覽). An example web page about a single kindergarten is here.
  • Submission
Email your work to Steven at sochoy@ouhk.edu.hk no later than 7 December 2009 23:59.
  • Assessment
Your work will be assessed against Web design best practices, Web standards, usability, and accessibility.
The maximum point you can gain from this assignment is 5 points.

Assignment Two (2009-2010)

  • Task
You need to form a team of 2-3 members to do a Web Design project. This year's project theme is re-engineering school websites. Your team will
1) Identify a Hong Kong school website that has room for improvement regarding its website design, information presentation, site navigation, usability and accessibility.
2) Identify and explain the problem areas of the website.
3) Make suggestions and proposal about how to fix the problems and improve the website.
4) Build a website prototype to demonstrate how your proposal and suggestions work.
  • Submission
You need to present your works in class for assessment and sharing purpose. You also need to deploy your website prototype and make it accessible to all peer students.
Make your website accessible no later than 29 March 2010 23:59. Steven can provide a Web server to host your submitted website.
  • Assessment
The maximum point you can gain from this assignment is 15 points.
Problem identification: 5 points
School website deliverable: 10 points
