Course assessment components

  • Class quiz after each lecture (10%)

Assignment One (2010-2011)

Layout Design by CSS

Tasks

Your task is to design a better look and feel of a question and answer Web site. The Web site, together with its CSS, can be accessed here. To make your own design, you only need to edit the CSS file for the Web site. During your work, you may need to stduy the details of CSS yourself.

Submission

You can work with another fellow student and submit one entry as a team work. Email your work to Steven at sochoy@ouhk.edu.hk no later than 1 December 2010 23:59.

Assessment

The maximum point you can gain from this assignment is 10 points.
Assessment criteria:
1) Do you make a good use of colors (color scheme) in your design? [2 points]
2) Do you apply appropriate uses of lines, shapes, gradients and texture? [2 points]
3) Do you make good uses of icons and graphics? [1 point]
4) Do you apply appropriate spacing and typefaces in your design? [1 point]
5) Does your design look good and balance in browsers of different sizes? [1 point]
6) Do you use valid CSS code? [1 point]
7) Creativity [2 points]

Assignment Two (2010-2011)

Information Design, Interface Design, Copy Writing, Search Engine Optimization

Background

The three-year senior secondary education system has been implemented at Secondary Four in September 2009. Under the new academic system, all students will be expected to complete three years of junior secondary education followed by three years of senior secondary education. Students completing six years of secondary education will sit for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

Under the system, students are expected to take four core subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies), plus two or three elective subjects in the HKDSE. The HKDSE will make use of Standards-referenced Reporting of assessments.

Task

Design and implement a website that provide and present information about HKDSE and the new senior secondary education system in Hong Kong.

Submission

You can work with other fellow students and submit one entry as a team work.
You need to present your work in class in late March, 2011.

Assessment

The maximum point you can gain from this assignment is 20 points.
Assessment criteria: information architecutre, information presentation and visualization, Web standards, Web accessibility.
