Assignment One (2011-2012)Single Web page design with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Web imagesTasks Your task is to make a single web page that present a piece of knowledge/fact related to Hong Kong. You will be provided with a template for you to start with. You need to add HTML, CSS, Web images, JavaScript to complete the assignment.
Proposed topic scope: Governance (管治與行政), Judiciary (法律與司法), Economics (經濟與金融), Transportation (交通與運輸), Social Security (社會與民生), Healthcare (醫療與衛生), Education (教育與培訓), Leisure and Culture (康樂與文化), Religion (宗教與風俗)

Assessment The maximum point you can gain from this assignment is 10 points.
Assessment criteria:
Use of HTML in content markup (2 points)
Use of CSS in content presentation (2 points)
Use of Web images in enriching information (2 points)
Use of JavaScript in information visualization and content interaction (2 points)
(If there is no need for JavaScript, the 2 points will be distributed to other area.)
Website copywriting, effectiveness of content (2 points)
Assignment Two (2011-2012)Information Design, Interface Design, Navigation Design, Copy Writing, Search Engine OptimizationBackground The "Hong Kong Fact Sheets" series (香港便覽) provides useful information about Hong Kong on a range of topics. However, all the fact sheets (amout to 54 sheets) are in Portable Document Format (PDF). The information presented in this way is convenient for printing and off-line reading, but certainly not ideal for web users to read and navigate.
The Hong Kong SAR Government, in its website as well as in the fact sheets, mentions that information contained in this series of publication may be freely used. No acknowledgement is necessary.
Task Plan, design, and build a website titled "Hong Kong Fact Sheets: Web Version" (香港便覽網頁版). The website is to present all the information contained in the fact sheets in a new way that is more suitable and attractive for web users.
Submission You can work with other fellow students and submit one entry as a team work.
You need to present your work in class in late March, 2012.
Remarks Your team may not have enough time to finish the whole website. In such a case, you can present your prototype website by showing its interface design in different types of pages, the navigation design, and some examples of web pages that are fully furnished.
Make a web page titled "About this Website" to describe the purpose of the website and the motivation of building it. You may want to mention that all the information is extracted from the Hong Kong Fact Sheets.
Assessment The maximum point you can gain from this assignment is 20 points.
