Business Websites: Online Payment and Security

Overview: This tutorial gives you some activities to explore and understand more about online payment options and security issues.


Activity One

Visit and record the payment methods accepted at these e-commerce sites. Include both electronic and traditional methods of payment, if both are offered.

Payment methods include: Cash, Cheque, Cridit card (online), Credit card (in person), credit card (over the phone), Deposit to bank account, PayPal.


Activity Two

Suppose you are finding a merchant account provider to use for your new web shop. The popular choice in Hong Kong seems either Worldpay or Asiapay.

(Q05): What is the setup fee, annual fee, and transaction cost for online payment collection by WorldPay?
(Q06): List five basic services (for collecting online payments including an internet merchant account) that are provided by WorldPay.
(Q07): Find five Hong Kong companies that use the services of Asia Pay. Briefly describe how they use the services.
(Q08): List 8 payment options that can accpet by Asia Pay.

Activity Three

(Q09): Give a specific example for each of the following roles: your customer, you, Visa card issuer.
(Q10): What is the function of Visa Directory?
(Q11): What are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing such a system, both from the merchant’s and the customer’s point of view?

Activity Four

  • Visit Hang Seng Bank website and answer the following questions
(Q12): Which certification authority (CA) issued Hang Seng’s certificate?
(Q13): When does Hang Seng’s certificate expire?
  • Visit Bank of China website and answer the following questions
(Q14): Which certification authority (CA) issued certificate for Bank of China?
(Q15): When does the certificate of Bank of China expire?
